In Memoriam

Dear Tana, when we picked you up on GINB's adoption day in May 2014, we knew you belonged with us. You were brought to our table, sat down next to Kobe's chair and put your head on his lap. He was barely 2 years old then, the same age as you. Full of confidence, we set off on a beautiful journey of 10 years. For 10 years you were our sidekick and that of the boys. Our dearest "Aunt Tana", we will miss you terribly.

In March 2016, I was allowed to adopt Geronimo (I called him Gero). Mireille called him a shy boy. I saw him, he looked straight into my eyes, and we had a bond. He did not immediately trust the outside world but at home he was great, so sweet, so affectionate, such a cuddly toy, sometimes very silly with the toy basket. He was always very close so that he could always see me. 

When he did not see me, he came looking for me. We were inseparable day and night. We experienced so many beautiful things, took so many beautiful walks. But 2 weeks ago, he stopped eating. He was seriously ill. Today 16/09/2024, I had to let him go. What extreme sadness, what emptiness. But I am grateful for 8.5 wonderful years together.

As a little puppy you came into our lives in November 2018, a day we will never forget, a dream come true. From day 1 you were a big teddy bear, a crazy dog, a diva, in short, a real lady with tricks. You knew how to use your sweet, cute puppy eyes to get your way every time, puppy or not, the years that followed your eyes remained your greatest asset. With great pain in our hearts, we had to let you go but until the last moment you also knew how to comfort us with your sweet face and soft licks.

You will always remain our sweet, beautiful girl 💖

I often called her our little bee because she was the smallest one on the adoption day.  Even though she did not know me, she came lying down next to me on the sofa from the first minute on and she did so for 5 long months during my recovery. During the 7 beautiful years she fully enjoyed  life and she let us enjoy it also. She was a gorgeous and soft animal with a golden heart.

You leave behind Babette, Bonito, and little Louise.  Be well up there and give a kiss to your sisters.

A long chapter came to an end under a cold winter sky, with a few snowflakes but your great heart could keep us warm, even though… We miss you immensely! You had several nicknames because a dog like you cannot be forgotten! And not to forget, a stubborn character that would never give up whatever happened, from  the start till the end. To you my little girl, my shadow, know that I loved you and always will.  Now it is time to rest and to join your mates. You will be forever in my heart; I will never forget you.

In the few years that I have known you (too short even) I got enormously attached to you and I considered you as my dog. You made me see all the colors and teased me in a way you knew so well! Enjoy the eternal meadows, without pain nor disability, to relax and frolic with your long-time companions

Much to our regret we inform you that yesterday we must make the most difficult decision for a dog owner to let Amira be put to sleep by our veterinarian Mark Van Herck.  Amira is now in Doggie heaven were she will meet all our other dogs again. She turned 14 years old on the 9^th of June this year and we send you herewith her birthday photo.  She had health problems for quite some time, but everything was under control. In the last days she was extremely quiet, she ate and drank well and went into the garden, but suddenly as of yesterday it deteriorated quickly. She has been our faithful companion for 12 years and we will miss her immensely just like our other galgo Thalya, who turned 13 years on the 13^{th of} May 2023, will miss her already now.

We had to let our Félientje be put to sleep today, she was 13 years old, and she was completely exhausted. Already for more than a year she got medication for cardiac arrythmias and water on the lungs. In the meantime, she walked more difficult and in the last weeks she could not stand on her hind paws anymore. Also, the kidneys failed, and she could not retain urine and intestinal contents. We must make the difficult decision… She was our first galgo and she spent 7 beautiful years with us. Thanks to her beautiful character we were able to experience the love for greyhounds which resulted in the adoption of Emma and Felix. We will miss her immensely…

Yesterday, the 27th of October, our dear Queen left us; in the past years she had severe heart problems. Already from the beginning she was a bossy female, a smart dog taking care of her pack. She always got us out of bed when something was wrong downstairs, when another dog wanted to go outside for a sanitary stop. We will miss her immensely, but that is just how life is. We are lucky that we still have three kind galgos with us. Queen, you will be forever in our heart.

Raisa was born on the 1st of February 2009, adopted on the 22nd of January 2011, and passed away on the 31st of August 2023.

Dirk called you chocolate, we thought you were cinnamon.  The veterinarian was convinced that you would find a golden basket with us.  You were a cuddly dog, a lap dog, a survivor.  To join us in the camper was the world for you, in the summer a cooling pad, in the winter a sleeping bag. You found your great love with our Polish greyhound Alvaro. Unfortunately, he passed away too soon, but you will meet again over the rainbow bridge in the eternal green pastures where you can run together forever  You were a gourmet, a fussy eater, but spaghetti was your favorite dish.  You were everyone’s friend, but you were daddy’s best friend. The single seat was your preferred sofa, you wined until the other dogs got out of it and you could sit down on your blanket.  You have given us many years of joy and love;   we had good and bad moments but we managed together. Now the suffering is in your eyes, and we wanted to end it for you. Rest in peace dear Raisa, we will never forget you, you will be forever in our heart.

On the 9th of July 2011 we adopted via GINB a beautiful greyhound named White. He was just 2 years old and soon he became my best friend.  He got a new name, Amaury, a golden basket and two Newfoundlander friends. Amaury was a dream dog, he learned fast, and he could go everywhere with us. He was jumping for joy to take walks and he could sigh blissfully when on a rainy day we did not get out of the sofa. On the 22^{nd of} June we celebrated his 14^th birthday, but on the 14^th of August we said goodbye with a heavy heart. I am grateful for the 12 beautiful years together with my wonderful friend thanks to you.

I wanted to inform you and I would like to thank you for the beautiful work you are doing.

Fredje, you were such a kind dog. Because Zoë was mourning for the loss of Chula and did not want to do anything anymore, we decided to adopt a new galgo.  We saw your photo and you were staying with Christel in Hof Rosa Canina. You were returned because your owner did not have time for you anymore.  He had a new girlfriend??? We and certainly Zoë were very happy with you. You entered the house, looked around and put yourself on the sofa and you felt at home immediately, your forever home. You were also a good watchdog and my husband’s sweetheart. And Zoë became again the frivolous dog that she was before.  When you needed a caress, you told us. You put your paw on our lap until you got our attention and the necessary caresses. Be well up there and give our regards to your boss and the other dogs.

In Memoriam Jupiter (°2013-2023)

On the 21st of April 2023 I had to say farewell to my dear galgoboy “Juppie”. He was a re-adoption of 5 years old and adopted by me in September 2018. Since his life in Spain, he had a metal plate in his left front leg due to a paw facture. Once in Belgium the metal had to be removed because of a serious infection. The fracture did not heal and again a metal plate was installed and for many years he could walk and run well. This year in April he again had an infection and after many years the metal was repelled resulting in a lot of pain and a thick swollen paw including severe arthrosis. In consultation with the veterinarian the only possibility was to let him sleep as no other option would give him a better life. In general, he was still in good health and therefore it was a terrible decision. He was only 10 years old. I miss this sweetheart immensely! Juppie run free without pain together with your friends up there, Mara, Tilia, Toby, Sol, Mira and Piraatje.

DUENDE was adopted when he was 3 years old, and he was the latest addition to our pack. He was always a playful dog with his toys.  He was very social with the other dogs in the house. But on the 8^th of April disaster struck due to a tightness in his spine he suddenly fell through his hind legs and because of the paralysis he could not stand up anymore.  We had to make a tough decision to let him go. After 7 beautiful years of fun and love we said farewell to Duende, and we released him from his misery.

On the 2nd of March 2023 my senior re-adoptive galgo boy “Piraatje”, left peacefully for the rainbow bridge. He arrived in my home on the 20^th of July 2021 from the West-Flanders region, he was almost 14 years old then.  Piraatje was my sweetest galgo ever, he was very kind for my other dogs and for visiting dogs and those who spent a few days in my house.  He was the “grandfather” of my pack. Piraatje, I have loved you so much in the short period of time that we could spend together. I will miss your kind snout immensely! For ever a warm place in my heart….
